Many caregivers leave family members in their homeland when they come to Canada. Until they receive Permanent Resident status they are not able to sponsor these family members to join them. As a result, many caregivers struggle with intense homesickness and loneliness. They can also experience added stress from the work they are doing, which can be both emotionally and physically demanding. Difficult employment situations will compound this stress, especially in light of the fact that they live at their place of employment.
